The simplest and most common use of solar heating in business is to provide hot water in the same way that it is provided within a domestic setting, though often on a larger scale. With the technology being scaleable, the cost per unit energy falls as the installation size is increased.

Exceptions where all hot water can be provided by solar water heating can be seen in certain parts of the tourism industry where the requirement for accomodation and thus hot water peaks in the summer with a decline to effectively zero in the winter period.

An additional advantage with using solar water heating as a renewable energy source is the availability of grants and tax incentives which can make the installation of a solar heating system very attractive.
